How to shop online

Shopping on this website couldn’t be simpler, just follow the easy step-by-step instructions and you are sure to find what you are looking for.

The homepage

The homepage gives you access to the entire site. From here you can browse the products, request a brochure, manage your Shopping Cart, and contact us.

You can always return to the homepage from anywhere within the website by clicking ‘Home’ at the top of the ‘menu’ on the left of the screen.

Getting started

To start shopping, click on a product category in the ‘menu’ on the left of the screen and you can start browsing through the product range. You can click on the individual products listed for a more detailed description of the item. If you would like to see a bigger picture of the product then click on the ‘view larger image’ link.

If you are looking for something you have seen in our brochure, you can use the ‘Gate Product Search’ function at the top of the screen to find it quickly.

How to add an item to your Shopping Cart

Once you have decided you would like to purchase an item, and you have selected all the relevant options applicable to the item, click the ‘Add to Cart’ button. It will then be added to your online ‘Shopping Cart’.

Please note: By adding a product to your ‘Shopping Cart’ you are under no obligation to purchase at this stage – you can delete products at any time prior to your confirmation of sale.

Shopping Cart

The Shopping Cart is a ‘holding house’ for the products you have selected. The products will remain here until you click ‘Checkout’ in the ‘Shopping Cart’ menu on the left (you are still under no obligation to purchase at this stage).

To view the contents of your online ‘Shopping Cart’ at any time click ‘View Shopping Cart’ in the menu on the left.

In the basket area you can increase the quantity of a particular item or remove it. Simply make any changes and click ‘Update Order’ to refresh the costs. The amount shown is the total amount payable for the goods, plus any packaging, carriage and insurance charges that are applicable. Any special discounts will also be shown. If you haven’t finished shopping, you can return to browsing by clicking ‘Continue Shopping’.

Once you have finished shopping and would like to purchase your items click on ‘Checkout’ in the menu on the left and follow the instructions, which will include details of where you would like your chosen products delivered and how you would like to pay.

FAQs Section

How do I find products?

Products are grouped into relevant sections and you can browse through these by selecting a category in the ‘menu’ on the left of the homepage. If you know what you are looking for, the ‘Search’ function will automatically find all the relevant products on the website. Simply choose suitable words that describe the item you are looking for and click on the ‘Go’ button.

How do I select multiple items?

You can add as many items as you like to your ‘Shopping Cart’. If you require more than one of an individual item then you can do this by increasing the number you add to the ‘Shopping Cart’, or by increasing the quantity in the basket itself and then clicking ‘Update Order’.

How do I purchase products?

When you have finished browsing click on ‘View Shopping Cart’ on the left of the screen. This will show you the total cost of your order. From here click ‘Checkout’ and you will be taken through a process for entering your details and payment.

How can I see what’s in my ‘Shopping Cart’?

Click ‘View Shopping Cart’ and you will be taken to the ‘Shopping Cart’ section.

How do I remove products from my Cart?

You need to change the quantity in the box next to the price in the Shopping Cart and click ‘Update Order’.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, Delta, Maestro and Solo credit/debit cards via the website. Alternatively you can place your order by phoning us on 01543 462500, and sending us a cheque. Your order will be processed when we receive your cheque.

How can I return an unwanted item?

In the unlikely event that you are not totally satisfied with any goods purchased please inform us in writing and telephone Customer Services on 01543 462500 within 14 days (starting on the day after the goods are delivered to you). Unless agreement is reached, Made-to-Measure product cannot be cancelled once production has started or they have been dispatched.

What do I do if I cannot find a product from the brochure on the website?

We try and remove items that are temporarily out of stock to avoid causing frustration when customers place orders – but we are likely to have more stock on the way, so do please call our helpful Call Centre Staff on 01543 462500.

How long does delivery take?

Although all products are shown as in stock, they are almost always built to order. Manufacturing times can vary between 4 to 12 weeks depending on the time of year and the number of other orders we are currently processing. If a product is in stock because we do build some faster moving items in bulk, then this will be dispatched within 5 working days. All Clearance items are dispatched within 5 working days. If you need your gate or fence by a specific date, then please call our sales team to see if this is possible prior to placing the order.

If I order more than one product, will they arrive together?

We do always try to send the entire order together. There may be special occasions where you can request partial deliviery of goods if required, please contact our sales team to discuss this.

What should I do if I haven’t received my order within 28 days?

In the unusual circumst ances that your goods haven’t arrived, please give our Customer Service team a call on 01543 462500 and they will investigate the matter for you.

Do you deliver abroad?

Unfortunately we are usually unable to offer a service for deliveries outside the UK mainland. There is usually a surcharge for deliveries to outer lying areas, Highlands, Islands and Northern Ireland. The size and weight of the gate will be the determining factor.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

We offer a 14-day money back guarantee on every product we sell through the website to ensure that you have peace of mind and are happy with your purchase. We also give a 10-year workmanship guarantee on our wrought iron style gates and railings, a 5-year workmanship guarantee on our wooden gates and a 12 month guarantee from the date of purchase for all other goods. Rust and Wood Rot is not covered in the guarantee as we have no control over how the goods are looked after once they have left our factory (even if the finish has been applied by Cannock Gates).

Wooden and Wrought Iron Style Gates

1) Option 1: Choose your Width / Gap Size

If you choose one of our wooden gates, the width measurements stated are for the actual size of the gates.

If you choose one of our wrought iron style gates, the measurements stated are for the gap between your gate posts, not the actual gate size.

More help regarding width and gap sizes here.

2) Option 2: Add a Finish

Wrought Iron Style Gate Finish
All metal gates, railings and posts are supplied with a black primed finish as standard. The primed product must be painted with a good quality rust inhibiting top coat after fitting. In response to requests from our customers, we now offer a painted finish, which means you should not need to paint them. However Cannock Gates cannot guarantee the paint for preventing rust because we have no control over how the gates are looked after once they have left our premises. The end customer must inspect the gates after fitting and touch up any scratches, and then regularly inspect for damage that may lead to rusting.

Wooden Gate Finish
We provide a wood staining service for all our wood gates. If requested we can finish your wooden gates in Impranol wood stain. The wood stain we use is a solvent-based, open-porous with biocidal ingredients and is suitable for use on all types of wood and on wood used outdoors. Impranol wood stain protects your wooden gates from harmful rays and repels water. (Our wood stain finish has a 12 month guarantee).

We have two staining shades for you to choose from, Light Oak or Natural Pine. (The swatches below are for guidance purposes only. We find the swatches appear darker here than the shade they appear on the wood.)

3) Option 3: Do you Require Posts?

Steel Posts (supplied with a black primed finish as standard)

  1. Firstly decide which gate you would like
  2. Make a note of the height of the gate you have chosen
  3. Each wrought iron style gate listing has a recommended post section (A, B or C)
  4. Find the height of your gate under ‘description’ on the left-hand side of the column. If you have selected a pair of gates with differing heights at the side and the centre please use the side height as the basis for choosing the correct post.
  5. Once you have found your gate height, you then need to decide whether your posts will need to be inserted below the ground (as shown in fig. 1) or fixed above the ground (if available) with a wall fixing post (as shown in fig. 2)
  6. Remember, if you are buying a pair of gates you will need two hanging posts. For a single gate you will need one hanging post and one latching post.

Solid Oak and Softwood Posts
Oak is an extremely robust timber that has been used in the construction industry for centuries. It is a timber that has a character all of its own and can be prone to splitting, although this does not impede its life whatsoever. Cannock Gates send you the best oak available from what is a very limited supply, however we assure you that what we do supply will last you a lifetime. Our softwood posts, pressure treated to ensure long life and durability, offer an excellent lower-cost alternative to the solid oak posts.

Wrought Iron Style Railings

1) Option 1: Choose your Width / Gap:

Intermediate and end posts for railings are available. Please telephone for details.

2) Option 2: Add a Finish

All metal gates, railings and posts are supplied with a black primed finish as standard. In response to requests from our customers, we now offer a painted finish, which means you don’t need to paint them! Painted produces a long-lasting, hard-wearing finish that when properly maintained (your painted gates shouldn’t need another coat for up to 12-18 months), will not crack, chip or peel as with conventional paints. The colour won’t fade, and you can paint over it if you want to highlight features of your gate e.g. with gold or silver paint.
